How to Set Up IPTV on a Smart TV

Most modern televisions can run IPTV directly, with no extra box. This guide covers how to set up IPTV on a Smart TV from Samsung, LG and any brand that uses Android TV or Google TV.

What you need: your TV connected to the internet, your British IPTV Direct login details (from a subscription or a free trial) and about ten minutes.

Step 1: Find Out Which System Your TV Uses

  • Samsung: Tizen, with the Samsung Apps store.
  • LG: webOS, with the LG Content Store.
  • Sony, Philips, TCL, Hisense and others: usually Android TV or Google TV, with the Google Play Store.

Step 2: Install an IPTV Player App

Samsung and LG

  1. Press the Home button and open the app store.
  2. Search for an IPTV player app. We tell you which one we recommend for your model when we send your login details.
  3. Select Install and open the app.

Android TV and Google TV

  1. Open the Google Play Store on the TV.
  2. Search for the IPTV player app we recommend and select Install.
  3. Open the app from your apps row.

Step 3: Add Your Subscription

IPTV player apps connect to your subscription in one of two ways:

  • Login details: enter the username, password and server address we send you (often called Xtream Codes), or paste the playlist link (M3U).
  • Device code: some Samsung and LG apps show a device ID or MAC address on screen. Send it to us on WhatsApp and we link your subscription to the TV for you.

Once the details are saved, restart the app and wait for the channel list and on-demand library to load.

Step 4: Improve Picture and Stability

  • Connect the TV to the router with an Ethernet cable if you can.
  • On Wi-Fi, choose the 5 GHz network and keep the router in the same room where possible.
  • Close other apps running on the TV and restart it from time to time.
  • Keep the TV software and the IPTV app up to date.

Smart TV IPTV FAQ

Can I watch IPTV on a Smart TV without a box?

Yes. Samsung, LG and Android TV sets can run an IPTV player app directly, so you do not need a separate box or stick.

Which Smart TVs are supported?

Samsung (Tizen), LG (webOS) and any TV running Android TV or Google TV, including Sony, Philips, TCL and Hisense models.

My TV is older and has no IPTV app. What can I do?

Plug in an Amazon Firestick or an Android TV box. It is the cheapest fix and usually runs faster than an older built-in system.

Why is the picture buffering on my Smart TV?

Smart TV Wi-Fi is often weaker than a streaming stick. Use an Ethernet cable where possible, or move the router closer and use the 5 GHz band.

Prefer a streaming stick? Read how to install IPTV on Firestick, or see our UK IPTV subscription plans.
